Granite

Granite countertops have long been a popular choice when renovating kitchens and baths. Since it’s a natural stone, granite offers an earthy appearance completely unique as no two slabs are exactly alike. These countertops naturally resist the heat from pots and pans and offer great protection against mold and mildew. While granite tops are still considered low maintenance, they may need to be resealed every few years.

Quartz

Quartz countertops are an engineered countertop made from the second most common mineral on Earth, quartz. The stone is mixed with polymers, resins, and pigment to create a wide array of textures and colors. Quartz is a low maintenance, non porous countertop that will need very minimal upkeep. However, due to the resins used in the manufacturing process, quartz can’t take extreme heat.

Marble

Marble is a type of metamorphic rock known for its beauty and high price. Its hard to deny the stone instantly creates a sense of elegance and grandeur in a room. However, the elegance come at a cost. Marble is a very porous stone and will need the most maintenance out of other material options. A good alternative to using pure marble is cultured marble for countertops.

Most people think that quartz or granite make the strongest countertops. While these two are undeniably strong, the toughness of a porcelain slab is a force to reckon with.
